Flat lay photography

Flat lay photography in East London.

Product and accessories shot straight from above, styled and re-styled until the composition earns its place on the page. Shot in Shoreditch and finished in the same building.

Flat lay photography is the shot taken straight from above: a garment, an accessory or a set laid out on a surface and lit evenly so nothing but the product reads on the page. We shoot it in Shoreditch, East London, for fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands, and retouch it in the same building.

Flat lay

Every piece, perfectly square to the lens.

A flat lay only works if the camera is dead level and the piece is perfectly square to it. We rig directly overhead rather than guessing an angle by eye, so every shot in a set lines up the same way.

Styling is where the real work happens. A garment is folded, smoothed, pinned and re-pinned until it reads as the product rather than as fabric on a table, which can mean a dozen small adjustments before a single frame is kept.

The setup is documented like any other shoot, so a flat lay shot in March sits on the same grid as one shot in October, without a reshoot to match it.

What we shoot

Four ways we style a flat lay

Folded

Clean, symmetrical folds for knitwear and separates, with every sleeve and hem placed the same way across a range.

Layered

A full outfit built in frame, so a product page can show how a piece actually gets worn alongside others.

With props

A considered object alongside the product, for a lifestyle feel without the cost of a full set build.

Detail crops

Close work on stitching, fastenings and fabric, answering the questions a wider flat lay cannot.

How a day runs

What we need, and what you get

Before the shoot

  • Your spec sheet, or ours if you do not have one yet
  • The range, with a rough shot count per piece
  • Samples steamed and ready to style flat
  • Any reference imagery you want the set to match

After the shoot

  • Retouched files cut to your spec sheet
  • Consistent colour checked against the physical samples
  • Backgrounds and shadows cleaned up in retouching
  • The lighting setup documented, so the next drop matches this one

Flat lay photography

What brands ask before booking

What is flat lay photography?

It is a product shot taken directly from above, with the piece laid out on a flat surface rather than worn or hung. It keeps a catalogue consistent and is usually the fastest and most affordable way to shoot a range, which is why it is the default for accessories, basics and skincare.

How much does flat lay photography cost in London?

It is priced per shoot rather than per photograph, because the variables that actually move the cost are the shot count and how much styling each piece needs. Send the range and the deadline and we will come back with a figure.

How long does it take to get the images back?

It depends on the volume and how much retouching the range needs. We agree the turnaround before the shoot rather than after it, so it can be planned around a launch date.

Can you match imagery we already have?

Usually yes. Send the existing shots and we will match the lighting, crop and colour so new pieces sit on the same grid rather than restarting the look.

Do you shoot beauty and lifestyle as well as fashion?

Yes. Flat lay is the standard approach for skincare and accessories as well as fashion, and the same product photography approach applies across all three.
